Events - Fire Mitigation HIZ Workshop at Crystal Lakes Fire Department

Want to know what you can do to increase your property's chances of surviving a wildfire? Of course you do! Our Fire Mitigation in the Home Ignition Zone workshops are designed to teach you everything you need to know about how wildfires work, how you can "fire harden" your home and/or property, and generally everything you can do to give your house, your camper, your camping lot, your little piece of heaven here on the mountain its best chance of surviving a wildfire. While the main focus is mitigating for structure protection, this information is also useful to those who use their property only for camping. And the good news is, some of the best things you can do are also the easiest.

EVERYONE IS WELCOME! We want to share this information with as many people as we can, so bring your friends and neighbors -- you do not have to be a Crystal Lakes property owner to attend and we heartily welcome people from our neighboring communities and anyone else interested.

Our next Fire Mitigation workshop is this Saturday, August 6th at 3:00 pm. The workshop is free and will be held at the Crystal Lakes fire station (237 Blackfoot Road). Enter through the door near the east end of the building on the side facing the hillside.

Parking: in case CLVFD has an emergency call during the class, please park to avoid blocking responders from getting in and fire trucks from getting out. The parking spaces on the west end of the building are available but be aware that your car may be blocked in by a responder's vehicle if we get a call. The best option is to park on the west side of the trash enclosure (NOT blocking access to the Association's fuel tanks). For those for whom walking from there to the station may be difficult, there is room for two cars to park on the side of the building facing the hillside to the left of the east door in front of the office windows. DO NOT park in front of the apparatus bay doors or up against the hillside opposite the station (the trucks need the entire space between the building and hillside to safely exit the station).
